Situation

USD591.8 billion was the total investment given to 1,074 unicorn companies. Out of the 15 industries that they belong to, I focused on the health industry.

 

Task

My goal was to find out who was interested in health ventures and how interested they were.

 

Action

I looked at the data dictionary sheet before I started exploring the data. Afterwards, I cleaned the data and checked for the usual suspects, missing data and outliers. I proceeded to do data validation, conditional formatting, pivot tables, and charts to see the answers to my questions.

 

Result

As a result, I discovered that out of the 1,074 companies, there are only 74 that belong to the health industry. 6% of the overall funding went to health, whereas fintech received triple of that at 18%. Three continents, North America, Asia, and Europe, have health unicorns. Zooming in further into the eleven countries, the top three based on the highest amount of funding in the health category were the United States ($23.5B), China ($5.5B), and France ($1B). The U.S. also had the highest number of health unicorns at 51, that’s 69% of all the businesses in that category.
